FULL TRANSCRIPT
If you’re a Black woman whose labs keep coming back normal while your body feels anything but, this is for you. You’ve likely done the right things, right? You went to the doctor, you did the tests, you heard everything looks fine, your labs are normal. Maybe you’re just stressed. Maybe it’s anxiety.
Meanwhile, you are dragging yourself just to get through the day. Your gut is a wreck. Your periods are painful and unpredictable. Your brain is foggy and your body hurts in ways you can’t explain.
This is often the point where a quiet voice starts whispering: maybe it’s just in my head. Maybe I’m weak. Maybe this is just what being a Black woman feels like.
Today, I want to offer you a different story. You are not crazy. You are not weak. You are not making it up. Your labs are not telling you the whole story.
Let’s start with what actually happens in most medical offices. You sit down, exhausted, explain your symptoms, get blood work, maybe imaging, maybe a referral. Then you come back and hear everything is within range.
You’re told you’re fine. Maybe lose a little weight, drink more water, manage your stress. And because this is coming from someone in a white coat with a degree on the wall, you turn the blame inward. I must be overreacting. I just need to push harder. This is just adulthood.
I need you to hear this clearly: what you’re experiencing is not just symptoms, it’s systemic gaslighting.
Not because your doctor is malicious, but because the system they were trained in is designed to look for extreme disease, not early dysfunction. It’s designed to treat symptoms, not root causes. It prioritizes what shows up on paper, not what your body is communicating.
So when they say everything looks normal, what they often mean is that everything fits within the ranges they’ve been taught to consider problematic. That is very different from saying you are well.
In ancestral root cause medicine, we don’t start with diagnosis codes. We start with understanding the body as a holistic ecosystem.
Think of your body as a living landscape, a garden. Your gut is the soil. Your blood and lymph are the water. Your nervous system and hormones are the climate. Your sleep, movement, relationships, and environment are the weather patterns.
Your health is the result of how all of these elements interact.
Within that ecosystem, we look at the six root causes of chronic illness. The question becomes: what is driving this pattern, not what label fits these symptoms?
You can have a disrupted gut, a dysregulated nervous system, early inflammation, shifting hormones, and still have labs that fall within “normal” ranges.
Your body can be screaming while your labs are whispering.
In ancestral medicine, we didn’t rely on labs. We relied on observation, pattern recognition, and relationship over time. The body speaks. It gives us a map.
We observe how you wake, how you digest food and information, how you sleep, how you bleed, how you move, how you dream.
Labs can be useful. I use them when needed. But when you understand the language of the body, labs become confirmation—not the primary source of truth.
If your labs are normal and your body is not, the question isn’t “what’s wrong with me?” The question is: what’s happening in my body that no one has taught me to see?
For practitioners, this changes everything. Instead of asking what diagnosis fits, you ask: what is this person’s terrain like? What root causes are involved? How long has this imbalance been developing?
That leads to completely different care and completely different outcomes.
Now, I want to give you something practical.
For the next seven days, track three things:
First, your energy. When do you feel most awake? When do you crash? Do you wake up rested or exhausted?
Second, your digestion. How does your body respond to food? Do you feel nourished or depleted?
Third, your sleep. How easily do you fall asleep? Do you wake up at night? Do you rely on alarms?
Don’t judge. Don’t try to fix everything. Just observe.
At the end of the week, look for patterns. Ask: what is my body trying to tell me?
Your symptoms are not failures, they are messages.
When you shift from “my labs are normal, so I must be the problem” to “my labs are one data point, and my experience is another,” everything changes.
You stop gaslighting yourself. You begin partnering with your body.
If this resonates, if you’re the woman with normal labs and a screaming body—I want to help you heal for real.
If you’re here to heal yourself or to better serve others, remember this: your experience is real. Your symptoms are real.
Normal labs do not get the final word on your wellness.
You do.
If you’re ready to stop relying on partial answers and start addressing what’s truly driving your symptoms, you’re invited to take the next step.
Heal at Home is where you’ll be guided through a structured, deeply supportive process to restore your body’s terrain and uncover the root causes of chronic illness—at your own pace, but with expert guidance.
If you’re a practitioner ready to elevate your work and build a practice rooted in true transformation, the Ancestral Herbalist Certification (AHC) offers the depth, rigor, and mentorship to help you do exactly that.
Whether you’re here to heal yourself or lead others, this is your invitation to step into a different way of understanding the body—and what it really takes to heal.
