About the Institute of Ancestral Medicine
The Institute of Ancestral Medicine (IAM) was founded with one mission: To restore ancestral wisdom as a living foundation for modern healing.
For generations, the knowledge of plant medicine, holistic health, and community healing lived within our cultures, families, and traditions. Much of that knowledge was disrupted, dismissed, or separated from the communities who carried it.
The Institute of Ancestral Medicine exists to restore that lineage of knowledge through rigorous education, clinical herbal training, and accessible pathways for people to reclaim their health.
It is a school where practitioners study ancestral herbal medicine and root-cause healing with the depth and responsibility required to serve others professionally.
IAM serves two important roles.
It is also a place where individuals and families learn how to restore their health through holistic medicine, plant-based healing, and a deeper understanding of the body.
Through education, mentorship, and structured healing frameworks, our work has supported thousands of people in recovering from chronic illness, reclaiming their vitality, and restoring balance within their lives.
The Institute of Ancestral Medicine offers a standard of holistic education designed for those who feel called to study this work deeply, whether to become practitioners of ancestral medicine or to take responsibility for their own healing and the health of their families.
Our Mission
To break generational curses, eradicate generational disease, and build generational wealth through sacred education and ancestral wisdom.
At the Institute of Ancestral Medicine, we believe true healing begins at the root — within the body, the mind, the spirit, and the lineage.
Our work is devoted to restoring the knowledge of ancestral medicine and making it accessible again through rigorous education, clinical herbal training, and holistic healing frameworks.
Through our practitioner training programs and guided healing pathways, we support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in reclaiming their health, restoring balance within their families, and stepping into their roles as healers, practitioners, and leaders within their communities.
Our Philosophy
At the Institute of Ancestral Medicine, we teach that disease does not appear randomly.
Chronic illness develops when the body’s natural systems fall out of balance, through disruptions in nutrition, toxicity, stress, environment, trauma, and lifestyle over time.
True healing requires addressing the root causes of disease, not simply managing symptoms.
Our work integrates ancestral herbal traditions with modern holistic sciences to help students understand how the body actually heals.
Rather than focusing on isolated symptoms, we train students to understand the whole person — the body, the mind, the environment, and the lineage patterns that influence health across generations.
Herbal medicine is one of the most powerful tools within this system. Plants support detoxification, restore balance within the body, and strengthen the organs and systems responsible for long-term health.
Our educational framework is grounded in the IAM Eight Pillars of Health and the Six Root Causes of Disease, which together provide a structured method for identifying why illness develops and how true healing can occur.
Through this approach, students learn not only how to work with plants, but how to help the body restore balance, resolve chronic illness, and return to vitality.
Our Founder
Anuuma Earth is a Master Herbalist, Medicine Woman, and educator whose life’s work is devoted to restoring ancestral medicine as a respected and accessible system of healing.
After experiencing the limitations of modern healthcare firsthand, Anuuma began studying plant medicine, root-cause healing, and traditional systems of holistic health. What began as a personal search for healing soon grew into a lifelong calling.
Over the years, she has supported thousands of people in restoring their health through herbal medicine, nutrition, detoxification, and whole-person healing practices.
Recognizing the urgent need for deeper education in ancestral medicine, Anuuma founded the Institute of Ancestral Medicine to create a place where this knowledge could be studied, practiced, and shared responsibly with both academic rigor and cultural reverence.
Today, IAM supports both individuals seeking to restore their health and practitioners who feel called to study the craft of ancestral medicine more deeply.
Her teachings bridge ancestral wisdom with modern holistic sciences, forming the foundation of IAM’s practitioner training and healing frameworks.
Through her leadership and practitioner training programs like the Ancestral Herbalist Certification Program and guided healing pathways such as Heal at Home, the Institute of Ancestral Medicine has become a place where people learn not only how to work with plants, but how to restore balance within the body and reclaim health at its core by addressing the root.

Our Lineage of Learning
At the Institute of Ancestral Medicine, students begin their journey through one of two primary paths of study — healing themselves or training to serve others.
Both paths are rooted in the same philosophy of root-cause healing, ancestral wisdom, and whole-person medicine.
The journey begins with a single question: Are you here to heal or are you here to learn how to heal others?
Both callings are sacred.
Some arrive because their bodies are asking for restoration, after years of chronic illness, confusion, and systems of medicine that never addressed the root cause.
Others arrive because they feel the unmistakable pull to study the craft of true root-cause healing itself, and to work with plants, understand the body at its core, and serve their communities as practitioners.
At IAM, these two paths form the foundation of our lineage of learning.
A guided pathway designed for individuals ready to restore their health through root-cause healing and ancestral medicine.
Students learn how to address chronic illness at its source using holistic nutrition, herbal medicine, detoxification, and lifestyle practices that support the body’s natural healing systems.
This path is for those ready to restore their health by addressing chronic illness at its root.
Students learn how the body actually heals — through nutrition, detoxification, herbal medicine, nervous system restoration, and daily practices that rebuild vitality over time.
Rather than chasing symptoms, the work focuses on resolving the root causes of disease, allowing the body to return to balance.
For many, this path becomes the first time they truly understand their health.
And for some, it becomes the beginning of a deeper calling.
Heal at Home™
The Path of Self-Healing
A comprehensive practitioner training program for those called to study ancestral herbal medicine at a professional level.
Students develop the clinical knowledge and practical skills required to work responsibly with plant medicine, support clients through root-cause healing, and build a professional healing practice rooted in ancestral wisdom.
This path is not just for those who feel called to heal themselves, but to study the craft of true root-cause healing.
This program trains Doctors, Nps, Naturopathic Doctors, and Advanced Holistic practitioners in root-cause medicine, clinical herbalism, and the philosophy of whole-person healing.
Students learn how to understand illness at its foundations, work skillfully with plant medicine, and guide others through the process of restoring health holistically.
By the end of the program, graduates are prepared to practice ancestral herbalism responsibly and serve their communities with knowledge that has been carried across generations.
Ancestral Herbalist Certification™
The Path of the Practitioner
Advanced Study & Continuing Lineage
For those who wish to deepen their work beyond the foundational paths, the Institute of Ancestral Medicine offers advanced programs and continuing mentorship for both practitioners and healing graduates that support lifelong study and mastery.
These include advanced practitioner leadership programs, trauma-informed healing studies, and ongoing healing communities designed to support lifelong mastery.
Because healing is not a single course or certification.
It is a lineage of knowledge — one that deepens across a lifetime.
Our Legacy
The Institute of Ancestral Medicine exists to restore ancestral healing as a respected and rigorous system of medicine.
Through education, practitioner training, and guided healing pathways, IAM is helping cultivate a new generation of practitioners, healers, and leaders who understand how to address illness at its roots and restore health within their communities.
We believe the future of medicine must return to its foundations — understanding the body as an interconnected system shaped by nutrition, environment, trauma, lifestyle, and lineage.
When these root causes are addressed, true healing becomes possible.
The Institute of Ancestral Medicine stands at the meeting point of ancestral wisdom and modern mastery — where knowledge once carried through tradition is studied, practiced, and passed forward to the next generation.
A Letter from Our Founder
Blessings,
The Institute of Ancestral Medicine was born from a promise.
A promise I made to myself, my children, Spirit, my ancestors, and every woman who has ever felt unseen, unheard, or unhealed by the system.
It is quite literally my spiritual assignment.
After years of watching my community suffer under a broken model of medicine, I devoted my life to restoring the original path.
The one our grandmothers walked before us.
The one that has been forgotten, buried, and discredited.
A path rooted in nature, Spirit, sovereignty, and the understanding that true healing happens when we address the root cause of illness, not just the symptoms.
The Institute of Ancestral Medicine is more than a school.
It is a sanctuary for remembrance.
Here, we honor both the science and the spirit of healing, teaching the principles of root-cause medicine so that people can restore health within their own bodies, families, and communities.
Some come here to heal themselves.
Others come here to become practitioners and guide others on the path of healing.
Both are sacred callings.
Because when one person heals, a lineage begins to heal.
We study.
We practice.
We master.
Not simply to treat disease, but to restore balance, reclaim sovereignty, and return medicine to the hands of the people.
Every lesson, every ritual, and every program offered here is designed to restore you to your power so you can carry this medicine back into your family, your community, and your lineage.
